Our Principal
A message from Mrs. Julie Lamuraglia, Principal -St. John the Evangelist
I am thrilled to be joining the St. John the Evangelist School staff once again. Nine years ago, I had the privilege of working as the principal at this school. I found the staff and families to be very supportive and focused on the children’s spiritual, social, and academic growth. I jumped at the opportunity to come back here.
For 27 years, I was an elementary teacher, most of it as a reading specialist with a focus on dyslexia. Also, I spent eight years as an administrator in local districts. With my background and education, I want to collaborate with our talented teachers, administrators, and Father Jim to create the best learning and spiritual experiences for the children.
I have a large Catholic family that has attended St. Cyril and Methodius Church for five generations. My family has lived on Mt. Prospect, near the Ely Park Golf Course, for over 100 years. Even my children have started to grow roots on that hill. My husband of thirty-three years, James, and my adult children, Maddi, Lillith, Jack, and Samuel, as well as my parents, Ann and Donald Kumpon, keep me busy. Still, I love gardening, making pottery, painting, sewing, and doing anything crafty.
Spirituality and worship mean something different to each person. The Catholic schools of the Syracuse Diocese have created a system of learning and love that will prepare each student for the future as a lifelong learner, as well as becoming a compassionate citizen of the world. My goal is to support each student and family in their journey with God.
When I think of my time spent here nine years ago, the word “community” comes to mind. I want to continue this focus in the future. I want smiles to be plentiful, laughter heard throughout the hallways, pride and satisfaction that comes from hard work seen in classrooms, and joy on each face that enters this building. St. John’s is a very special place. It is not just a building, but a loving community.
Mrs. Julie Lamuraglia
