Catholic Schools of Broome County

We asked you to give back to the Catholic Schools of Broome County that you love, to help meet the challenge of taking the next giant leap for our country and our world.

Once again your response has made us grateful to be a part of this amazing Saints community.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our challenge donors (Dr. Mike Fidler, Dr. Colleen Crandell, Mr. Jim Corgell and Gault Auto),  CSBC alumni, faculty, staff, retirees, students, parents, and friends, our schools are positioned to meet the challenges of tomorrow like never before.

4 alumni and friends of the CSBC have issued Day of Giving challenges to the CSBC community. If we can crush these challenges we will raise an additional $25,000 for tuition assistance in the CSBC!

A message from Dr. Fidler...

I choose to give to the Catholic Schools of Broome County to provide others with the same great opportunity Catholic school provided me.  Without St. Joseph’s, St. Mary’s and Merrimack College, I would have been lost. I was the first person from a second generational Irish family to graduate from college and then did the unimaginable and was accepted to Columbia, School of Oral and Dental Surgery after 3 years. This was unheard of at that time. I subsequently served my country and then became a Board-certified Oral Maxillofacial Surgeon. It has been an amazing journey for a poor Irish Catholic from Lynn, Massachusetts.

I am passionate about the education the Catholic School of Broome County provides.  I sent my children there.  I have a grandson currently in the system, and I want to help support other families who want to receive the same quality Catholic education.  So, I am challenging all alumni and friends of the CSBC to give back today and support the 24-hour giving challenge, Many Gift, One Purpose.  If alumni and friends donate $10,000 in the next 24 hours, I will DOUBLE it and donate $20,000.  Join me!

A message from Dr. Crandell...

“I graduated from Cornell University and with honors from New York College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1998. Then I completed my residency in Dermatology at SUNY Downstate. I returned to Broome County in 2006 to open my first practice, Southern Tier Dermatology. With a vision of bringing state-of-the-art dermatology care to Upstate NY, I evolved my practice to include 6 offices throughout Upstate NY. In 2019, I joined forces with Schweiger Dermatology Group to continue to bring quality dermatology care to underserved areas of NY State.

I genuinely care for every patient and give each patient-focused personalized attention. I am board-certified in Dermatology, a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, and an active member in the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery. I’m a recognized expert in medical, surgical and cosmetic dermatology.

I am passionate about the mission of the Catholic schools and the education my children are receiving.  I want to help ensure that other families have access to the same quality education.   This is why I am challenging other parents, alumni and friends of the CSBC to donate today.  If 50 people donate from noon-3 pm, I will donate $2,500.  Please consider giving back!”

If 50 alumni and friends donate between  4-7 pm on February 23, Mr. Jim Corgel ’69 will donate $2,500 for tuition assistance for underrepresented and low-income families in the CSBC!

A message from Mr. Corgel '69...

As a graduate of the CCHS Class of 1969, I have a strong passion for Catholic education.  CCHS provided me with a foundation that I took with me to Notre Dame where I earned both my BA and MBA.  The values instilled in me in both high school and college helped me in my 38-year career at IBM.  I believe strongly in what a Catholic education can do for a child, and want to help ensure that it’s a possibility for those families who think it’s out of reach.

In 2017, my wife Christine and I, established the James ’69 and Christine Corgel Endowed Scholarship. It provides two students with a $5,000 scholarship for each year they are enrolled in Seton Catholic Central High School (9-12). Recipients of the scholarship are from under-represented backgrounds and low-income families. It is our hope this scholarship will help to reinforce the importance of providing a solid and diverse Catholic-based education to the residents of Broome County.

My wife and I would like to give again.  We have chosen to participate in the Day of Giving: Many Gifts, One Purpose.  We are issuing a challenge to all alumni and friends of the CSBC to give back.  If 50 of you will donate from 4-7 pm today, we will donate $2,500 to tuition assistance for under-represented backgrounds and low-income families.    I challenge my ’69 classmates and all alumni to please give back!

A message from Gault Auto

“Gault Auto is excited to support the Catholic Schools of Broome County’s Many Gifts, One Purpose: A Day of Giving. Our organization works hard to not only congratulate the hard work of local companies by providing them with a grant through our Gault Auto Gives Back program, but also to showcase the great work they are doing in our community.

Gault is passionate about education.  Both Rob and I have children in the Catholic schools and have seen first-hand the dedication of the teachers, especially this past year.  We are excited to be a part of the Day of Giving and issue a challenge to all CSBC alumni and friends.  If 50 of you donate from 9 am-Noon on February 24 we will donate $2,500″. – Allan Eagles, Gault Auto
